Types in The Flood - Lesson 4
Delivered From The
Flood.
I. Type? - The term "type" or "typology" is not used in the Bible, yet as we have already seen, God used figures pointing to future figures in the bible and is one of the most interesting studies of the Bible.
A. TUPOS - occurs 16 times in the New Testament.
1. It is translated twice as "print" (John
2. It is translated twice as "figure"
(Acts
3. It is translated twice as
"pattern" (Titus 2:7; Hebrews 8:5)
4. It is translated once as
"fashion" (Acts
5. It is translated once as
"manner" (Acts
6. It is translated once as
"form" (Romans
7. It is translated seven times as
"example" (I Corinthians 10:6-7; Philippians
B. It means
"Figure" or "Shadow" - An incidence or occurrence that is
historically true, but points to another person, incident, or occurrence in the
future.
1. We usually can not
identify the object that casts the shadow by the shadow alone, but when the
object to whom the figure points is seen, all becomes
clear.
2. We can not usually identify the one who
casts the shadow by the shadow alone, but when the object from whom the
shadow is cast is seen, all becomes clear.
C. Examples that we have
already seen in review:
1. Adam a type of Christ - When Adam was put to sleep, and from his wounded side, the Lord God builded for him a bride. Without the New Testament record, we could have never known the meaning of the first surgical operation.
2. Coats of Skins a type of
3. Noah’s
D. Double Types - The ark
represents the refuge for sinners from the coming judgment, but this doesn’t
complete the typology. Oftentimes there
is a double typology. (An incident may
be a type of two different things in the same scenario)
1. Adam - While being a figure and type of the lost sinner in need of salvation, he is also a type of the ‘Last Adam" and "Second Man" Jesus Christ.
2. Isaac - Isaac was a clear
type and picture of the Son to be sacrificed, but also, a clear picture, at the
same time, of the sinner himself that needed a Savior. God provided a substitute
ram found caught in the bushes. (Genesis 22:13)
II. Double Type Of The Flood - The ark is truly a type of Christ as Savior from the coming judgment, but the Flood is also a picture of the great Tribulation of the end time, and God’s plan for His remnant. to be brought through the Tribulation by the ark of safety, Jesus Christ.
A. How do we know this? We read in the book of Matthew:
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
To this question Jesus answered:
Matthew 24:37 But as the
days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the
Son of man be.
Matthew 24:38 For as in
the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and
giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered
into the ark,
Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away;
so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
B. Before - Notice the word "before." There were only three classes of people on earth in the days before the Flood. These are represented by Enoch, Noah, and the wicked that perished in the Flood. The same three classes of people are in the world today, and will be present at the coming of the Son of Man.
1. Enoch - Enoch was translated before the Flood came.
2. Noah - Noah and his family were saved from destruction.
3. The Wicked - The wicked perished in the Flood.
C. The Apostle Paul identifies these three
classes of people
in existence today in the book of I Corinthians:
I Corinthians
Every person fits into one of
these categories:
1. A Jew is a physical descendant of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob.
2. Israelites are
descendants of
3. All who are neither Jews nor Israelites are
called Gentiles.
4.But
there is also a group made up of both Jews and Gentiles, called the Church, the
Body of Christ.
Everyone that trusts in the shed blood of Christ for salvation is a member of the true church. With this in mind, remember these words from the book of Matthew:
Matthew 24:37 But as the
days of Noe [were], so shall also the coming of the
Son of man be.
Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
E. This will be repeated - We know because
the Lord promised before He returns for the Second Coming and the Great
Tribulation, He will call out the true believers as He said in the book of I
Thessalonians:
I Thessalonians
I Thessalonians
F. The Day of the Lord - Then the Day of the Lord will be ushered in, and the greatest tribulation on earth will be experienced - A time so terrible that except those days were shortened, there would be no flesh saved.
G. Israel -
But Israel is still here after the church is raptured.
God has made a way for the faithful remnant of Jacob’s seed so that they will
not be destroyed by the seed of the serpent, the Antichrist.
H. Rapture before the judgment - Just as Enoch was
translated before the judgment fell and Noah was safe in the ark, so after the
church is raptured and tribulation begins, God will
prepare a place of safety for the believing remnant of
I. Greatest Revival In History - Then comes the revival. The remnant will, of
course, be the prime target of the Antichrist, but God protects them like He
protected Noah and his family.
J. People Saved -
Eight people were saved in the ark - 144,000
will be saved, at least at one time during the Tribulation.
K. The Balance -
The balance of unfaithful, wicked people
will all perish.
III. Prophecies earlier by the prophets:
Ezekiel 36:24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you
out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
Ezekiel 36:25 Then will
I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your
filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk
in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do [them].
Ezekiel 36:28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers;
and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.
B. How About Jeremiah?
Jeremiah
30:7 Alas! for that day [is] great, so that none [is]
like it: it [is] even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of
it. ....
Jeremiah 30:10 Therefore
fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD;
neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy
seed from the land of their
captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be
quiet, and none shall make [him] afraid.
Jeremiah 30:11 For I
[am] with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though
I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not
make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave
thee altogether unpunished.
C. Greatest Evangelists of All
Time - After the church is raptured, there will be a remnant of the true
These with
Revelation 7:3 Saying,
Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the
servants of our God in their foreheads.
Revelation 7:4 And I
heard the number of them which were sealed: [and there were] sealed an hundred
[and] forty [and] four thousand of all the tribes of the children of
Revelation 7:5 Of the tribe of Juda [were] sealed
twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben [were] sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad........
John then
continues:
Revelation
7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number,
of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and
tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white
robes, and palms in their hands;
Revelation 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God
which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
These have to be the converts in the Tribulation
converted by the preaching of the 144,000 that John mentioned earlier. This is
spelled out by John just a little bit later in the book of Revelation:
Revelation 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
