Daniel Chapters 10-11:1 – The Scripture Of Truth – Part 1 of 3

 

This lesson introduces us to Daniel’s Last Vision and the next two lesson series.  Cyrus has given his decree for the Jews to return to Jerusalem as had been prophesied before Cyrus was born.  Daniel, I am sure, is troubled at this time because only a little over Forty-two Thousand have returned.

Daniel has retired from the king’s business and seeks God about what will befall his people.  Daniel’s answer is delayed for twenty-one days, I’m sure to teach us about the retrainer taught by the ApostlePaul in II Thessalonians.

The next two lessons will deal with the answer to Daniel’s prayer

 

Part I - Spirit World Connection to the Earth – Chapter 10-11:1

 

I. The Time Of The Vision

 

Daniel 10: 1 ¶ In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

 

A. This Is Daniel’s Last Vision

1. Came in the 3^rd year of King Cyrus – BC 533

2. Daniel was over 90 years old

a. Chapter 1:21 Tells us Daniel continued to the 1^st year of Cyrus

b. Probably not conducting the King’s business

B. Some of his people had returned to Jerusalem

1. Ezra 1:1-11 Cyrus Decree for people to return

2. Ezra 2:64 – Tells us only 42,360 Jews returned

3. The Book of Esther gives us an idea of many Jews that remained

C. Daniel probably disappointed

1. So few Jews Remained

2. Sought God – What would happen to his people?

 

Daniel 10:2 In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

Daniel 10:3 I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

 

D. Daniel Fasted And Mourned For 21 Days

1. Doesn’t mean he didn’t eat anything

a. He didn’t eat any food he liked the best

b. Examples he gave was meat and wine

2. He would have undoubtedly continued longer – relief came from above

 

II. Vision Of The Son Of Man

 

 

 

Daniel 10:4 And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;

Daniel 10:5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:

Daniel 10:6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude..

 

A. The Lord Appeared To Daniel

1. He appeared to Moses at the Burning Bush – Exodus 3:1-6, 13-14

2. He appeared To Paul on the road to Damascus – Acts 9:1-9

2. The Same Son of Man Appeared to John on the Isle of Patmos

.

Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

Revelation 1:13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

Revelation 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

Revelation 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

 

B. The Effect Of The Vision – Same with John and Daniel

1. He had no strength

2. His comliness turned in him into corruption

3. He was on his face – fainted

4. He was left alone – Frightened all around him

 

Daniel 10:7 And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

Daniel 10:8 Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength.

Daniel 10:9 Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground.

 

C. John Had The Same Reaction:

 

Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

 

D. They Both Saw The Son of Man

 

Revelation 1:12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

III. Touch Of The Heavenly Messenger

 

Daniel 10:10 ¶ And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.

Daniel 10:11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.

 

A. The Son of Man Was Not Alone

B. The Angel Gabriel was with Him

1. The same as the ‘Certain Man’ in Daniel 8:15-19 – 6 years before

2. The same in Vision of 70 Weeks in last chapter – 2 years before

C. Gabriel’s Touch Strengthened Daniel

D. Gabriel Told Daniel To Stand Up

 

IV. Gabriel, Michael, And The Prince Of Persia

 

Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.

Daniel 10:13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained [left Michael behind] there with the kings of Persia.

 

A. Gabriel’s Delay In Answering Daniel

1. Daniel had ‘Set his heart to understand’ 21 days before

2. Gabriel was sent immediately

a. Gabriel was delayed by the Prince of Persia

b. Gabriel had to fight in the unseen spiritual world

c. Gabriel would still be fighting if Michael had not come to help

B. We Have A Glimpse Into The Spirit World

1. The spirit world has to do with the affairs of men

2. The spirit world has to do with nations on earth

C. The Prince of Persia was not King Cyrus

1. No man could withstand Gabriel for 21 days

2. No man could withstand Gabriel for 21 days

3. No man could withstand Gabriel with a message from God

D. There Is A Kingdom Of Satan – Taught In The Bible

 

Matthew 12:22¶ Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

Matthew 12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

Matthew 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

Matthew 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

Matthew 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

Matthew 12:29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

 

B. Satan’s Kingdom Has Kingdoms Principalities

1. They are Organised for a purpose

2. They correspond to the kingdom divisions on the earth

 

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world [age], against spiritual wickedness in high places [heavens].

 

C. Satan Is The Prince Of The Power Of The Air – god of this world

 

Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

 

D. Satan Offered His kingdom To Christ

 

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Matthew 4:9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

 

V. The Key To The Interpretation Of The Rest Of Daniel

 

Daniel 10:14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

 

A. Gabriel Reveals What Will Happen To Daniel’s People In The Latter Days

B. But - First Gabriel Foretells Future Events Concerning Daniels’ People

1. He Tells What Will Happen After Alexander The Great’s Empire Divided

2. The war between the Ptolemys and the Selucids

3. Known as the kings of the south and kings of the north

4. This will bring us thru the reign of Antiochus Epipanies – BC 164

5. Carry us to the time of the Maccabees – BC 166 – Verses 32-35

D. Verse 36 Begins With The Wilful King

1. He is the Antichrist

2. Explains what will befall Daniel’s People In The Latter Days
