Coachlight Bible Study – Exodus Lesson 12
Delivered By Blood And Power – Exodus Chapters 12-14
Hebrews 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.
Although Moses’ rod being turned into a crocodile and the first nine plagues shook up Egypt and the Pharaoh greatly, Pharaoh’s heart was still hardened and he would not let the Israelites go. The last plague, however, shook Pharaoh so much that he did let the people leave Egypt, but soon followed them, trapping them against the Red Sea
Just as death of the Israelite nation was escaped by blood of the Passover Lamb, deliverance from Pharaoh’s advancing armies will be experienced by the power of the Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Passover lamb, the power of the Holy Ghost seals the deal by baptism:
I Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
I Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
And these things happened to them as examples to us today:
I Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
And in the words of John the Baptist:
John 1:26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
John 1:27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
John 1:30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
John 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
John 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

E. In Scripture, The Month Is Usually Referred To As The Month’s Number
F. The Month Of The Exodus Was Abib or Nisan Which Was March – April
G. Example: The Day of Atonement Was On 10th Day Of 7th Month – Tishri
II. Instructions For The Taking The Passover Lamb
Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exodus 12:4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
Exodus 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
A. Each Man Was To Take A Lamb According To The House Of Their Fathers
1. Notice the emphasis on the individual
2. Notice the emphasis on each house – A lamb for a house
3. The timing was all Yahweh’s – Just as the antitype:
4. The same as when God sent His son to shed His blood on the cross:
Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Galatians 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
B. Notice Scripture Did Not Say If The Lamb Was Too Little For The House
1. The Bible states: If the house is too little for the lamb…
2. Then get the neighbor according to their eating
3. This teaches that the lamb is sufficient
C. Notice That The Lamb Had To Be Without Blemish
1. The lamb was to be taken out on the 10th day of the month
2. The lamb was to be kept until the 14th day of the month
3. The reason was to watch it to make sure it had no blemish
4. The Lamb of God also was without blemish:
1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1 Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1 Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
D. Notice The Words the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it
1. What was on God’s mind as He gave these instructions?
2. The Lamb of God
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
III. Instructions For The Passover
Exodus 12:7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Exodus 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exodus 12:9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
Exodus 12:10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Exodus 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.
Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
Exodus 12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Exodus 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
Exodus 12:16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.
Exodus 12:17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
Exodus 12:18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.
Exodus 12:19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.
Exodus 12:20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
A. The Blood Of The Lamb Was To Be Applied

2. Of the house in which you eat the Passover
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
3. Just as Christ shed His precious blood
a. That doesn’t save unless the blood is properly applied with faith
b. Likewise, Israel had to properly apply the blood – with faith:

b. How many people are trusting in water for their salvation?
2. Eat the flesh with unleavened bread – Speaks of no corruption
a. Bread without leaven – there was no time to wait for bread to rise
b. Leaven speaks of corruption of the Word of God:
Matthew 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
Matthew 16:5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
4. Eat it in haste with your loins girded – Type of Christian life today:
I Peter 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
I Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
I Peter 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
I Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
I Peter 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
I Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
I Peter 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
I Peter 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

2. This plague will not affect you
E. Keep This Memorial Throughout Your Generations
1. This Passover could only be celebrated eternally by Christ Himself:
Matthew 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
Matthew 26:27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Matthew 26:29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
2. This was to teach the generations that followed:
Exodus 12:26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
Exodus 12:27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
3. This teaching has been the the Lord’s plan all along:
a. Why did God call Abraham?
Genesis 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
b. At the 8th plague God revealed to Moses His reason:
Exodus 10:2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.
c. Yahweh said in the instructions for the Passover:
Exodus 12:25 And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.

Exodus 12:39 And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual.
Exodus 12:40 Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.
Exodus 12:41 And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

Exodus 12:47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
Exodus 12:48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
Exodus 12:49 One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

Exodus 13:5 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.

Exodus 13:22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.
A. The Pillar Kept The Israelites From Sunburn During The Day
B. The Pillar Gave The Israelites Light At Night – They Saw The Glory Of God

John 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
VIII. Pharaoh Follows Israel

Exodus 14:11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?
Exodus 14:12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.
X. Delivered By Power

Exodus 14:21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

Exodus 14:26 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.

Exodus 14:30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea shore.
Exodus 14:31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.
A. During This Deliverance, Israel Was Baptized In The Cloud And In The Sea:
I Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
I Corinthians 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
B. This Reminds Us Of The Words Of John the Baptist:
Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
C. This Is Typical Of Baptism of Repentance And Baptism In The Holy Ghost
D. We Have The Glory Of God Inside Of Our Hearts
II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
E. Beware Of The Leaven Or Present Day False Teachings:
1. The church does not have the visible glory today as the Israelites did, quoting:
Romans 9:3 For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
Romans 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
a. Yes, Israel was shown the visible glory of God
b. But this Passage does not say only Israel was shown the glory of God
c. Or they would the only people to have adoption pertain to them
d. Or they would be the only ones with the covenants
e. Or they would be the only ones to have the promises
2. The Baptism Of The Holy Ghost Is Not For Today’s Church Age, quoting:
1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
a. The context is to point out that charity never fails
b. This verse does not teach that tongues ceased with the Apostles
c. This verse does not teach that all prophesies will fail
d. If this all were true, then all knowledge has vanished and nobody could tell if tongues had ceased anyway!
